Samsung launched its latest foldable smartphones, namely the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3, yesterday at their Unpacked 2021 event. Both the smartphones carry a different design but are essentially foldable. Additionally, Samsung went innovative with the Galaxy Z Fold 3, as it will be Samsung’s first foldable smartphone to carry an S Pen. Samsung has also upped the durability of the smartphones, as both the phones come with a crazy IPX8 water-resistance rating and the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus as the screen’s glass.
The design of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is like a foldable tablet, where the Fold 3 folds and unfolds horizontally, and turns into an 8-inch tablet when open, whereas the Galaxy Z Flip 3 folds and unfolds vertically, with the same 6.5-inch screen size.
Phantom Black, Phantom Green, and Phantom Silver are the color options that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be available in. Whereas the Galaxy Z Flip 3 will be available in Green, Cream, Gray, Lavender, Phantom Black, Pink, and White color variants. However, the Flip 3’s Gray, White and Pink color variants will be exclusively available on Samsungs official website Samsung.com. Samsung will also offer a limited edition Thom Browne edition of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 & Galaxy Z Flip 3, which is the product of Samsung and fashion designer Thom Browne’s partnership. Consumers pre-ordering the smartphone will also get a year’s worth of Samsung Care+ protection for accidental damage, screen replacement, water damage, and back cover replacement.
The smartphones will be available for the consumers to buy from 27th August onwards, and pre-orders for the smartphone have already started. However, smartphones are still not available in India, and there has been no official word from Samsung regarding the same.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 price & specifications:
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 comes with a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display that can fold horizontally and houses a crazy refresh rate of 120Hz. Additionally, the smartphone also carries a cover screen visible outwards when the smartphone is closed. And the cover screen carries a 6.2-inch HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display, which also houses a 120Hz refresh rate. The display is the same as its previous models. However, the screen resolution for Fold 3 has been improved from its predecessors.
The Fold 3 runs the One UI based on Android 11, and underneath the hood, it carries the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC that powers the smartphone and provides clock speeds up to 2.84GHz. The processor model is not official yet, but multiple rumors suggest that it is the Snapdragon 888.
When it comes to the camera setup, the Fold 3 carries a triple camera setup that includes a 12MP primary sensor that can go up to f/1.8 aperture, suitable for focus-based photography. Other than that, the Fold 3 comes with a 12MP ultra-wide camera and 12MP telephoto sensor, which supports 2x optical zoom and HDR10+ recording. All the cameras come enabled with Samsung’s revolutionary OIS for improved camera stability. The front camera of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is a 10MP sensor that is suitable for selfies, video calls, and recording. The smartphone also carries a 4mp under-display camera that is housed on top of the folding screen.
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is equipped with 5G, 4G LTE, Bluetooth v5.2, Wi-Fi 6, GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port for charging and transferring data. The battery of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is sized at 4400mAh and supports wireless charging. And can also wirelessly charge other smartphones. In addition, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 also supports 25W fast charging.
In other features, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 also provides support for two S Pen models, namely the S Pen and the S Pen Pro. The S Pen can only be used with the Galaxy Z Fold 3; however, the S Pen Pro is compatible with all Samsung phones with Bluetooth connectivity.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is priced at $1,799.99 (approximately Rs. 1,33,600) and comes in two storage options: 12GB RAM plus 256GB storage, and 12GB RAM plus 512Gb storage.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 price & specifications:
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 comes with a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display, which houses a massive 120Hz refresh rate, and folds vertically in itself. The cover display of the smartphone is a 1.9-inch screen that is on top of the foldable cover.
Moving on to the processor, like Fold 3, Samsung has not revealed which chipset the Flip 3 will be running, and consumers can expect the Galaxy Z Flip 3 to run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 comes with a memory of 8GB RAM. The OS of the software is One UI based on Android 11. The smartphone comes in two storage options, 128GB storage variant and 256GB storage variant, priced at $999.99 (approximately Rs. 74,200).
The smartphone’s camera comes with a dual rear camera setup, which includes an OIS-enabled 12MP primary sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide shooter. The front camera of the smartphone is a 10MP camera that is suitable for selfies and video calls.
Under connectivity options, the smartphone comes with a USB Type-C port, 5G support, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.2, and GPS. Additionally, the smartphone comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner as well. The smartphone’s battery is sized at 3300mAh and supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0’s 15W fast-charging. Like Galaxy Z Fold 3, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is also capable of wireless charging and wireless reverse charging.
Both the smartphones are priced premium, especially the Galaxy Z Fold 3. And for the price, both smartphones offer an innovative design and top-end specifications, and durability. Both the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 look pretty intense, and all eyes are on the reviews of these two phones.
