Vivo is currently working on a concept phone, which can completely revolutionize how photography works on phone cameras. This particular feature that Vivo is working on integrates a flying drone camera, which fits in the bottom section of the phone and can slide in & slide out. This can come in handy while shooting aerial videos. This technology that Vivo is working on currently has the potential to disrupt the drone-cam industry.
Vivo plans to develop this drone camera smartphone technology in a more efficient way, and has already filed a patent for this product with the World Intellectual Property Office in December 2020. The camera is going to be relatively small as it needs to fit inside the smartphone’s body. However, there are no updates on if this phone will be available for the markets or is just a concept that Vivo is developing. A patent is more of a strategic move that company’s make to secure their ideas and innovations.
A few sketches revealed of this concept phone were discovered by a Dutch publication house called ‘Lets Go Digital.’ The sketch represents a smartphone that has a small slot underneath to house the entire drone camera. This particular drone has a battery compartment and comes with four propellers. The drone comes equipped with two cameras and three infra-red sensors. One camera is there to capture a broad frontal view, and the second camera is there to capture anything below the drone. According to the patent, there could be more cameras integrated into the phone. The sensors on the drone are there to avoid accidents when it is airborne.
Vivo experimented with concepts like this, giving them the gimbal camera installed in the Vivo X50 pro. It is not necessary that everything that a company patents would be developed on a commercial level.
This tiny drone camera’s design is similar to that of a small 10cm sized flying camera called Air Pix. Vivo is working to make it even smaller so it can be housed inside a smartphone. It all depends on Vivo and how they utilize this concept and if they will develop this feature commercially and make it work efficiently.
